The Modern Finance Function: Automation, AI and Controls

What is on the table.

The question this session is built around, and why it matters now.

Finance functions are being asked to do two things at once: automate the close, the reporting and the routine analysis, while tightening the controls that keep all of it trustworthy. The two pull in different directions, and the leaders doing it well have found ways to make them reinforce each other.

This roundtable brings together a small group of finance leaders to compare what is actually working: where automation has paid back, where AI is earning a place in the function, and how control frameworks are being redesigned rather than simply bolted on.

It is a working conversation, not a presentation. Every participant is expected to contribute and the numbers are kept small enough that they can.

Themes we expect to cover.

The chair sets the question; the room decides where it goes. These are the threads most likely to run through the conversation.

Automating the core

Which processes have been transformed, which resisted, and what the honest payback has looked like.

AI inside finance

Forecasting, analysis, anomaly detection: where models are already trusted and where the function is still cautious.

Controls that scale with automation

Redesigning assurance so that speed does not quietly erode trust in the numbers.

The finance team of the next few years

What the function's skills, structure and relationship with technology are starting to look like.

Who is in the room.

Every seat is chosen for seniority, sector and a direct stake in the question. Guests are confirmed individually before an invitation is issued.

  • Chief Financial Officers and Finance Directors
  • Financial Controllers and Heads of Finance Transformation
  • Heads of Financial Planning and Analysis
  • Senior finance leaders responsible for systems and controls

Chair and speakers.

Every Convene X roundtable is chaired by a member of the founding team, who sets the question and keeps the discussion honest and moving. Contributors are confirmed once the group is set and shared directly with confirmed participants, never announced for reach.

The chair

A member of the Convene X founding team, drawing on years of running senior rooms across finance and technology. The chair's job is to keep the conversation candid, balanced and useful to every guest.

Guest contributors

Confirmed to guests directly once the room is set. If you would like to contribute to this or a future room, or to bring a question of your own, brief us on your audience.
